The Best Motivational Speaker

Recent Articles
By Step Jones, November 17, 2004

Who is the best motivational speaker? I have an answer for you:  You.

You are your own best motivational speaker.

You are your own best motivational speaker, because you talk to yourself 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  You are your most powerful motivational speaker, because you are talking to yourself in different way, every day, all the time.  Wouldn’t it be boring if you had the same conversion with yourself all the time? So you don’t.

You find different topics to talk about and that is what goes on in your mind throughout your day.  Who needs motivational speakers when you have an endless supply right there between your ears?  What are you saying to yourself?  Because this goes on for a lifetime, I would venture that we explore a multitude of subjects before we die.

But with most of us we have some dominant topics that we talk to ourselves about.  Let me give you a list of some of my top topics and then you can make up your list.   (This is in no order of importance, just topics that I talk to myself about all of the time.)

  • My family.
  • My God.
  • My business.
  • How successful I am going to be, and what I am doing to make myself more successful?
  • How much money I need at a particular time.
  • What I am going to have for lunch and dinner? Not so much breakfast since I tend to skip it. (I know it’s supposedly the most important meal of the day, but who said that anyway?)

See, I am continually talking to myself all the time just like you:

Am going to workout today or not?

I talk to myself about the mistakes that I make and celebrate the successes.  I talk to myself about sports, and things in the news.

I talk to myself all of the time, and when I do talk to myself I would like to motivate myself as much as possible, please.

If I am not going to give myself a pep talk, who is?  Of course that is the business that I am in: motivational speaker.

But you don’t need me (My Chief Operating Officer hates it when I talk this way). You need you to tell yourself that you are great, and that you will work to move forward and that your success is here and you are doing great.  Talk to yourself about what are you doing to move your success forward.

People tell me they don’t know how to talk to themselves, and I say, “Well, be real quiet and what do you hear?”  We hear ourselves saying something.

So what are you talking about? Sports? The weather? Or are you talking to yourself in the negative:  “I am not good enough.” “I failed today.” “I am not strong.” “I will make no impact.” “Success for me is not possible.” “I don’t know how to do it.”

Or are you saying to your self, “Self this is your motivational speaker here.  Life is very good, and I can do this today to make myself better, and I can do that tomorrow to make myself better.  I can do little things that add up to big things, because I am my own best motivational speaker.

I know exactly what I want in life, and what I want in relationships, because who knows me better than me?

I can do it, and this is what I am going to do today.

Now if you need help deciding on what you want to talk to yourself about today we have articles to give you some thought on what you might want to talk to yourself about. We have a monthly newsletter that we can deliver to your e-mail box that can generate some thought starters.

We have DVD’s and books, and books on CD that you can listen to and decide what topic it is that you want your motivational speaker to talk to you about today.

This is the freedom we all enjoy in every part of the world; no one can control our self-talk.  I am sure that many people would love to control your self-talk so that you will do what they want you to do, but that is not what is right for you.

You say you want success?  You have to start by turning on your motivational speaker in your mind, putting the appropriate thoughts in your head for you, and starting to have the self-motivational talk that will be good for you.

What do you think is good for you?  What are the top ten or twenty things that are important to you?  What do you want your motivational speakers to talk to you about?

You have a lifetime, so the topics and things that you can do are unlimited.

You are unlimited in your self-talk, unlimited in the topics that you want to talk about, and unlimited in the future that you can make for yourself.

Pick the topics that you want and talk to yourself. Have your motivational speaker get up and give you one pep talk after another.  Why not be good to yourself. Don’t you deserve it?

You absolutely deserve to think great thoughts about yourself and talk to yourself about any topic that you want.

You have the power of your motivational speaker, to talk to you about whatever it is that you want.

I have found that when you talk to yourself about the things that you want, over time another funny thing happens: The mental model of your outside world changes.

People tend to grow in ways that they didn’t expect, because now instead of thinking randomly, they start to put into their mind what they want to talk to themselves about.  And by doing that, your world view begins to change which means your outside perspective begins to change. Then you begin to change.  There’s a lot of change possible when you listen to your own internal motivational speaker.

And you know what? You don’t need me. You don’t need anyone else. All you need is you.

Have your motivational speakers talk to you about the things that are important to you. You’ll be better every day.

PS: I’d still be happy to come to your group to motivate them anyway. (My Chief Operating Officer put this line in, and he’s right. I would be to glad to.)
