All of us at Life Motivations hope you have had a happy and healthy holiday season. As we look toward the New Year, in between the resolutions and goal setting, it is also a good time to take stock of what else is important in life. By this I mean giving back to something you believe in.
For example, I am on the board of the Blind Children’s Center. This institution has been in existence since 1938.
They are a very dedicated group of people who help families with visually impaired children from birth to five years old, when the goal of the Center is to place these children in schools along with everyone else.
They allow these children to become “regular” people in society. What a blessing for them and us.
There have been many successful graduates that have gone on to lead not only productive lives, but lives that are full and rich. Many graduate college and go on to be professionals.
But even more important is that the families of these children can find help to guide them through what can be a crucial period in their lives.
The center does not charge the families anything for this assistance, and is completely supported by donations from the community. It is not a United Way agency, and there are no government funds.
The Center changes people’s attitudes, choices, self-images, mental models, values, character, goals, and a host of other things that I refer to in the Four Dynamics of Life.
The majority of us don’t face these types of challenges in life.
What kind of progress should we make in our lives? And although we face critical periods in our lives, I will always remember the children and the families and think, “What is crucial in my life today that these children aren’t overcoming right now?”
The Blind Children’s Center should be an example for all of us to move forward.
You can visit the center at www.blindcntr.org to learn more about what they do.
